Overview:

Prime brokers have played a central role in the evolution of hedge funds from cottage industry to institutional-grade investment vehicle. Core services expanded from basic trading and safekeeping in the early ‘90s to a broad menu of services including credit, cash management, custody, risk analytics, performance and attribution, technology, consulting, and capital introduction. But when the global markets collapsed in September 2008, prime brokers faced months of plunging asset values, portfolio liquidations, margin calls, loan defaults and ultimately fewer clients.

This webinar will provide two perspectives of prime brokerage in 2009. Chris Greer (Prime Finance) will explore the evolving business environment for prime brokerage services focusing on hedge funds’ new set of challenges and corresponding needs. Mason Snyder (Catalina Partners) will discuss counterparty risk, its increased importance in the wake of Bear Stearns’ and Lehman Brothers’ failures, and trends in the management of prime brokerage and custody relationships.

Our moderator, Linda Giuliano (AllianceBernstein) will set the stage by introducing attendees to the role that prime brokers have played in the industry and how their services have evolved.

Who should attend:
This overview of the past and current role of the prime broker in the hedge fund industry will interest Investment Managers, Prime Brokers, Administrators, Auditors and Consultants in the hedge fund space.
