2002 NICSA/William T. Black Scholarship Awards

NICSA Chairman Gary French announced the names of the recipients of the 2002 NICSA/ William T. Blackwell Scholarships at the June General Membership Meeting in Wellesley. Eleven students were selected by the Citizens’ Scholarship Foundation of America from an outstanding field of applicants and each will be awarded a scholarship for post secondary education.

The 2002 recipients of the NICSA/William T. Blackwell Scholarship award are:

Ernestine De Veyra, of Toronto, Canada, plans to attend Queens University, majoring in Science Education. Her NICSA member parent is Rose De Veyra of MacKenzie Financial.

Irina Gumennik, of Swampscott, MA, plans to attend Harvard University, majoring in Pre-Med. Her NICSA member parent is Inna Gumennik of MFS.

Justin Kuk, of Portage, MI, plans to attend Michigan State University, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. Her NICSA member parent is James Kuk of SalesPage Technologies.

Amber Longhurst, of Bothell, WA, plans to attend Brigham Young University, majoring in Biochemistry. Her NICSA member parent is David Longhurst of Safeco.

Jeffrey Markey, of Overland Park, KS, plans to attend Brigham Young University, majoring in Biochemistry. Her NICSA member parent is Patricia Markey of American Century Investments.

Kevin Mitchell, of Placentia, CA, plans to attend Brigham Young University, majoring in Philosophy and Pre-Law. His NICSA member parent is Lorayne Mitchell of Capital Group.

Marina Nasman, of Dartmouth, MA, plans to attend Brigham Young University, majoring in Biochemistry. Her NICSA member parent is Alla Nasman of State Street.

Oruchi Opara, of Medford, MA, plans to attend Massachusetts College of Pharmacy. Her NICSA member parent is Ahotu Opara of State Street.

Gbemisola Sorinmade, of Weymouth, MA, plans to attend Clark University. Her NICSA member parent is Debbie Sorinmade of State Street.

Ilya Tatar, of Salem, MA, plans to attend Boston University, majoring in Computer Systems Engineering. His NICSA member parent is Irina Tatar of MFS.

Peter Thompson, of Hubbardston, MA, plans to attend University of Massachusetts Lowell, majoring in Sound Recording Technology. His NICSA member parent is Stephen Thompson of MFS.

Established by the Board of Directors in May of 1995 as a tribute to Bill Blackwell's commitment to NICSA and to the mutual fund industry, the NICSA/William T. Blackwell Scholarship Fund is endowed through donations by individuals and NICSA member companies.
