A Message from Diversity Project North America | 2Q 2021

Justine Phoenix, Head of Diversity Project North America

Justine Phoenix

The Diversity Project North America had a ground-breaking quarter by kicking off a national keystone event, launching an industry-wide recognition program, and shining a light on diverse voices across the asset management industry. Thank you to our dedicated committee members who continue to advance the asset management industry toward more inclusive and equitable workplaces.

Nicsa’s first-ever Fearless Leadership Symposium on June 16-17 was sharply focused on developing a roadmap of success for DEI in 2021. Business leaders, budget owners, and policymakers converged to advance the best practices that will not only foster healthy work environments, but enable us to better serve clients and investors. Session recordings will be available soon for those who registered.

During the event, 24 Rising Stars were recognized as emerging leaders within the global asset management industry. Please join me in congratulating this amazing group of talented professionals. Read the press release here. What a wonderful way to celebrate diversity in our industry, and to cultivate our next generation of leaders!

2021 Rising Star Awards

Earlier in the quarter, we partnered with LGBT Great on the release of Holding Up the Mirror: Diversity Data in the Investment, Wealth Management and Savings Industry, a survey of organizations on the collection and usage of DEI data (supported by EY). The report seeks to evaluate the current state of diversity data collection, provide insights from global HR on current challenges and recommendations, and share industry-specific good practice case studies on progress initiatives. Read the press release here.

We recognized Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month by featuring industry voices sharing ways we can be better allies to colleagues and those starting out in the industry.  We also hosted the latest installment of our popular Listen Learn & Lead series, focused on the AAPI perspective. You can replay the webinar here.

I was honored to be chosen as one of the judges for the Women in Asset Management Awards USA. I look forward to joining a jury of powerhouse individuals to showcase the success of best-in-class women in our industry later in the year.

Finally, we ended the quarter by closing out the 2021 DE&I Perception Survey of the Asset Management Industry with over 1,000 responses! We will soon be exploring the survey findings via a series of Member Firm Round Tables facilitated by founding member EY.  A comprehensive report of the findings is anticipated for Fall 2021. We look forward to bringing you these valuable insights.

Thank you again for a successful quarter. Please enjoy the resources below and be sure to share this newsletter with a colleague.
